Eight-year-0ld Niamh Brown was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer in July last year but after surgery and a successful course of chemotherapy, she is now making a full recovery.

Since then, the Dinting Primary School pupil’s parents Julia and Darrell have been inundated with offers to raise money on behalf of their brave daughter.

They chose to support When You Wish Upon a Star, who make dreams come true for sick children, like Niamh, who was treated to a holiday in Lapland to meet Father Christmas last December.

The Brown family have already raised two thirds of their £10,000 target, which will pay for ten children to enjoy a similar trip.

Darrell, 28, kicked off the fundraising, announcing he was doing a sponsored 60-mile cycle from Manchester to Blackpool with ten friends on Sunday.

Friends and family in Glossopdale and Tameside have embraced the challenge, holding salsa evenings, pamper days and birthday parties in aid of the good cause.

Cllr Damien Greenhalgh, who recently rewarded Niamh with a special high tea at a marquee at the Glossop Tour de France celebrations on Sunday, said: “She is an amazing, brave young girl.”
