Mike Hockey and James Horner, who both work at Tesco in Glossop, hope to raise £10,000 for Diabetes UK, the retailer’s chosen charity.

Starting at the Wren Nest Road store, the duo, who call themselves the Baldy Walkers, aim to complete their hike eight days later at Tesco headquarters in Cheshunt, in Herfordshire.

The walkers will visit eight superstores along the way, including in Whaley Bridge, in a bid to generate more donations from customers.

Mike said: “Diabetes UK is close to my heart, as over the last few years they’ve given support to my father-in-law who has type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes also contributed to my granddad’s early death at 65 years old. Diabetes UK didn’t exist in the capacity then as it does now and I want to do anything I can to help them so that they can support other people’s loved ones to live longer, better and healthier lives.” To sponsor Mike and James, visit justgiving.com/baldywalkers200milewalk.
