GALLERY: Can you spot your child at Derbyshire fun run?

Youngsters from 15 schools across Chesterfield and north Derbyshire attended the GO Run For Fun event at St Mary’s College, cheered on by English middle-distance runner Becky Lyne.

Mark Tournier, partnership development manager for the Chesterfield School Sport Partnership, said: “The event was a fantastic opportunity for young people to enjoy some outdoor physical activity with their friends and perhaps inspire them to get into running and other sports.”

Chris Allen, a teacher at Holmesdale Infant School, said: “It was a stunning setting and a well organised event. Everyone enjoyed themselves.”

The GO Run For Fun series is the idea of Jim Ratcliffe, owner of INEOS, one of the UK’s largest manufacturing companies.

Jim Ratcliffe said: “I’m passionate about getting as many children running as possible as early as possible.

“The idea is simple – to get children out of the house having fun. It is not rocket science.

“Running is the basis of so many great sports.

“If our children can catch the running bug early, they’re more likely to stick to it and this can only lead to them having more active and healthier lifestyles in the future.”

Children from the following schools took part in the run: Unstone St Mary’s Infants; Ridgeway Primary; Immaculate Conception Primary; Holmesdale Infants; Speedwell Infants; Hasland Infants; Barlow Primary; Camms Primary; Gorseybrigg Primary; Sharley Park Community; Ashover Primary; Hasland Junior; Holymoorside Primary.
