Councillor Chris Ludlow, the borough council's cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: "Stand Road Park is a well-loved park and popular with its users.

"We're pleased to welcome the Racecourse Rubbish Rangers, organised by the borough council, to clean up the park and encourage people to come along and join in."

Graham King, chair of the Friends of Stand Road Park, added: "We welcome this initiative from the Racecourse Rubbish Rangers litter pick group.

"Their community volunteers go out in all weathers to pick litter from some of the streets in the park's catchment area.

"Now they have organised this fun day on the park.

"I hope it will be the first of many.

"It is great to see the park being well used, especially for events organised by the community for the benefit of the community."
