Friends are remembered at fundraiser

Friends of tragic Derbyshire pals Daniel Green and Jamie Lynch came together to remember the pair at a charity fundraising day.

The two, aged 23 and 22, were killed in May 2014 when the motorbike they were riding hit a wall.

Kelly White, 36, best mate of Jamie Lynch said she helped organise the event at the Rising Sun pub, New Whittington, to help raise money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

She said: “It was a very emotional day of remembrance - and Yorkshire Air Ambulance is just such an amazing charity.”

So far the day has netted about £500 towards the good cause but donations are still rolling in.

Activities included a barbecue, face-painting, singers and prize giveaways, including two tickets to a Chesterfield FC match next season.

Daniel, of George Street, North Wingfield, and Jamie, of Chesterfield Avenue, New Whittington, both suffered fatal injuries when they were thrown from the blue Honda motorbike when they were travelling on Slack Hill Road from Matlock towards Chesterfield.

Following the tragedy road safety campaigner Becky Carline, of Kelstedge, called for more safety measures on Slack Hill.

She said: “I think the speed limit should be lowered and it would be good to see flashing traffic signs warning of hazards.”

A Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership spokesman said: “Reducing road deaths and injuries involving motorcyclists is one of our key priorities.

“In an effort to keep riders safe, we fund cut-price training, police enforcement, educational outreach work and publicity campaigns,” he added.

As a rapid response air emergency service the Yorkshire Air Ambulance serves a population of approximately 5 million people across 4 million acres. 
To keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulances in the air we need to raise £12,000 per day or £4.4m per year.

As part of her fundraising for Yorkshire Air Ambulance to remember Jamie, Kelly will be undertaking a tandem skydive on 15th May.
