Thesessions, aimed at people who have not played for a while who enjoy the game but want to get fit, have been organised by the Amber Valley Village Games group and William Gregg Leisure Centre in Hand Road.

Walking football is a new concept and is designed for those aged 50-plus, but younger people can still join in. The sessions are open to anyone who is no longer able to keep up with the pace of traditional 11 or five-a-side games. All the rules are the same except for one difference – no running!

The sessions will take place on Wednesday mornings at the leisure centre from 11.30am to 12.30pm and will cost £3.

Beth, the Community Sports Activator for Amber Valley Village Games said: “The sessions are intended to encourage individuals to come along and socialise with other like-minded people who would like to be just a bit more active whilst having fun, at very little expense. Walking Football is very popular in other parts of the country- you don’t have to be part of a team, just bring yourself, a drink and a pair of trainers.”
