Firm’s broadband hell may see them leave

A frustrated north Derbyshire business is threatening to leave its base after long-term unstable and slow internet and email connections are choking their business.

Neil Cotterill, of MTM Products Ltd, on Dunston Trading Estate, of Foxwood Road, Chesterfield, has repeatedly reported communication breakdowns and claims British Telecom has struggled to resolve on-going computer problems.

Mr Cotterill said: “We have been troubled by internet issues since probably 2010 when we started getting interference on our broadband line. Four years on we are still struggling with poor internet connectivity.”

Mr Cotterill explained the exchange has been upgraded but fears it will be two or three years before street cabinets will be improved.

He says MTM, a labelling and signage company, and other businesses in the area are struggling with internet banking and card payments.

Natalie Ward, Digital Derbyshire Superfast Broadband programme manager at Derbyshire County Council, stated problems around Sheepbridge and Dunston have been under discussion with BT for a number of months and it is hoped a solution can be achieved in a year. She added other business have also raised issues.

The Government-backed, multi-million pound Digital Derbyshire project with the council hopes to make superfast broadband available to over 95per cent of homes and businesses by 2016. Derbyshire chamber of commerce is looking into the difficulties.
