Firefighters tackling big blaze in Peak District

Firefighters are currently battling a large moorland fire in the Peak District.

Crews were called to the incident at Bamford Moor at 4.10pm.

Paul Smith, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service station manager, said: “Firefighting will continue until nightfall when we expect to withdraw crews at about 9.30pm, returning early tomorrow morning.

“Unfortunately, in addition to dealing with the incident, we’ve also had to deal with numerous people coming to see the fire.

“I’d like to appeal to members of the public to stay away.”
