Minions mixed with Mexicans, while Snow White’s seven dwarfs met the animals of Noah’s Ark in Eyam on Saturday as hundreds of villagers donned fancy dress for the annual carnival.

The day, involving a sheep roast, prizes and a parade, marked the colourful climax to a week of celebrations in the Peak village.

Secretary of the carnival working group, George May, said: “It was a fantastic day, we had no major problems. I think the great thing is people produce the most amazing floats and imaginative costumes.

“Everyone puts in a huge amount of work, there’s a huge variety of floats and fancy dress and everyone seems to have a ball.”

From live performances from Ashover Brass Band, the City of Sheffield Pipe Band, the Billerettes and Stockport dance troupe the Urban Gypsies, to vintage cars, a bouncy castle and a Punch and Judy show on the stocks there was something for all the family.

All funds raised go to Eyam Sports Association.
