Brian Sheppard, who was a detective in Chesterfield, is desperate to raise awareness about the NDM campaign which is urging the Government to issue the medals to all veterans who have served their country.

Mr Sheppard said: “The Queen saw fit to authorise the issue of this medal to Canada, Australia and other Commonwealth countires but her own troops are not recognised.

“Other colleagues and veterans are lobbying their MPs and I have sought the assistance of NE Derbyshire MP Natascha Engel.”

According to the British Veterans NDM Campaign website, the Government has decided not to award the NDM medal to all those servicemen and women who kept territories secure since the ending of the Second World War as it could cost too much.

A Facebook campaign has been set up including reports and the bill that went to Parliament.

Mr Sheppard added: “David Cameron and his ministers ignore requests for the issue of this medal. Veterans feel let down and undervalued. They did their bit to protect this country in different rolls and are not recognised. There must be thousands in Derbyshire.”

Mr Sheppard is urging people to join the NDM campaign and write to their MPs.
