Derbyshire eight-year-old does a lockdown litter pick for the NHS

A New Mills schoolboy is doing his bit for the environment as well as fundraising for the NHS by picking up litter at Peak District beauty spots.

Dylan Morrison has set himself a target of £1000, and is also asking if people can suggest areas that need tidying up.

Thornsett Primary School pupil Dylan has done loads of litter picking already around Goyt Valley and Castleton.

His proud mum Rachel said: “We’ve been to Castleton today and collected five bin bags at Mam Tor, Speedwell carpark and along the old road.He He wants to do a litter pick every day until he’s back at school.

“We are immensely proud of Dylan. Today is day seven of litterpicking - he has been out everyday, regardless of the weather.

“We have done a number of litter picks around New Mills and Birch Vale.

“We completed a litter pick at Goyt Valley and we did Castleton yesterday. Castleton was the worst - he collected five bags of litter- I could not believe it.”

Dylan initially wanted to do a litter pick to earn his blue peter green badge - a friend had suggested he could ask for sponsorship.

Rachel said: “Dylan and I discussed lots of different charities that he could help and he decided on the NHS because they help everybody.

“We have set up a little Facebook page - so Dylan can keep a diary of his litter picks - if anyone has suggestions of where he can litter pick that would be great.”
