Fire crews from Matlock and Clay Cross were deployed to a crop fire, affecting an area of approximately 100 square metres, off Harewood Road in Holymoorside on Thursday, July 16.
This comes as firefighters continue battling the ongoing moor fire in Tintwistle – with most Derbyshire crews in attendance.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) have issued an urgent appeal to the public following the incident – reminding residents and visitors of important safety advice amid hot and dry weather spell.
A spokesperson for Matlock Fire Station said: “This was attended by our on call crew whilst the wholetime crew have been up at Tintwhistle battling the ongoing moor fire with a huge attendance by most of the appliances in the county and Greater Manchester appliances which is now a major incident.
"With this extremely hot weather please share the word far and wide to follow the safety advice:
“Do not have BBQs or campfires in open public space.
“Do dispose of cigarette ends responsibly.
“Do not leave litter or glass items when out walking or having a picnic.
“Do keep BBQs away from the house, shed and fences.
“Do not swim in open water, the water is much colder underneath and can cause cold water shock.
“Please remind all family and friends of the advice that DFRS keep sharing to keep everyone safe!”
