Drivers urged to remove valuables after vehicle break-in

Police are appealing for witnesses after tools were stolen from a van parked in Hathersage.

Four offenders broke into the vehicle, in Moorland Road, and took items including drills and meter testers.

The theft took place at about 12.30am on Thursday, April 11.

A Humbolt 110 SDS drill in green and silver was taken along with a Dewalt hammer drill, Fluke meter tester, Robin meter tester and Brother tape printer.

A number of the items have the owner’s details on them.

PCSO Anthony Boswell, from Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood, said: “I’d urge any motorists, including tradesmen who store tools in their vehicles, to remove anything valuable when you get home and take it inside, instead of leaving it in the van or car.

“Thieves will target vehicles that they think might have valuables inside but just taking that extra step could prevent your goods being stolen.

“Marking any valuables with kits such as SmartWater or etching your details on them could also deter thieves in the first place.”

Witnesses or anyone with information relating to the tools theft should call police on 101. You can also call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
