A driver was forced to stop on a Derbyshire road after a number of trees fell in front of him.

Police said the motorist alerted them to the incident on the A6 at the Homes Ford Cottage between Cromford and Whatstandwell at 5.30pm on Saturday.

The driver said he was forced to stop his vehicle after seeing one tree fall and take other trees with it on to the road, causing it to be blocked in both directions.

Police called the Highways Agency, who used chainsaws to chop up the fallen trees.

Nobody was injured and the road reopened at 7.10pm.
