Firefighters from Buxton attended the blaze near the Bulls Head on Main Road, Foolow, at about 11.40am yesterday.

Eyewitness Andrew Carmichael, who took the pictures, said: “The bus was moved away from the pub thanks to some quick-thinking before the fire took hold – otherwise the building would have been badly damaged or destroyed.”

The TM Travel bus was completely destroyed in the blaze.

A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “The fire was in the engine compartment of the bus.

“Police and the Highways Agency also attended the scene because the road was severely damaged.”

The road was closed while the blaze was tackled and the road was repaired.

It is not clear how the fire started.

Nobody was injured.
