The Met Office has issued a warning that there is an 80 per cent chance of severe cold weather, icy conditions and heavy snow.

Up to four inches of snow is now expected to fall in Derbyshire, with 4cm falling over the Pennines so far.

The Met Office has also extended the area covered by the snow warning to the south of the Pennines. Gale force winds could create blizzard conditions in places.

Tonight, wintry showers will continue to affect the area, with longer clear spells developing for a time. This will allow frost in many places with icy stretches developing.

The weather organisation predict it will feel no warmer than minus four degrees Celsius, so wrap up!
