DERBYSHIRE: Snow causes chaos for commuters

Snow caused chaos for commuters this morning (Tuesday, January 5).

Drivers reported traffic delays across the area including slow-moving traffic on Whittington Moor and around Staveley.

Problems were also reported on the A617 and A61 and hazardous driving conditions on M1.

The A57 Snake Pass is closed in both directions between Ladybower Reservoir and Glossop, because of snow and hazardous driving conditions have been reported on the A6 in both directions between the A619 junction in Bakewell and the A53 junction in Buxton, because of snow.

Drivers are also warned about very slow traffic and hazardous driving conditions on A619 in both directions between the A632 junction in Chesterfield and the A621 junction in Baslow, because of ice and snow.

Cloud and outbreaks of rain, sleet and hill snow are expected to quickly clear away, leaving clear periods and showers.

Tomorrow is expected to be windy, with a bitter northerly wind bringing frequent heavy showers, although Derbyshire may remain largely dry.
