Derbyshire police welcomes its latest special constables

Three students, a 999 call handler and an administrator at an MOT test centre are among the latest new recruits to join Derbyshire’s Special Constabulary.

A group of 11 volunteer officers were sworn-in at an attestation ceremony last night, Monday, February 9.

They are Special Constables Millie Barlow, Sophie Blackburn, Roisin Flannery, Thomas Hebden, Lucy Holmes, Louis Kay, Aron Palmer, Jack Robinson, Holly Walker-Thompson, Alex Webster and Daniel Wilson.

The group will be helping police the streets up and down the county, at locations including Buxton, Bakewell, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derby and Glossop.

They were sworn-in in front of family and friends and force headquarters in Ripley last night, and now have the same powers as regular, full-time police officers.

Assistant Chief Constable Gary Knighton said: “Special Constables have a long and proud history of providing vital support to the force, and in particular giving very welcome assistance to our communities and police colleagues.

“Being a Special Constable enables each individual to make a genuine difference to the lives of people across Derbyshire.”

The Special Constabulary is made up of volunteers who give up their time to help police Derbyshire and keep communities safe from crime and anti-social behaviour.
