Recording a conclusion of suicide, coroner Peter Nieto told the inquest: “He had a history of mental health problems, including self-harm.

“He had gone missing on August 7, 2019, in circumstances suggestive of suicidal ideation.

“His mood had deteriorated, he was troubled by his physical health and he had recently been interviewed by the police due to serious allegations.

“He had been referred to mental health service support and an appointment had been arranged but he was not deemed as immediate and high-risk of self harm, and was noted to have close family support.

“On the balance of probabilities, Mr Vardy undertook a deliberate act with the intention of taking his own life given the nature of the act itself, previous episodes of self-harm, recent worries and stresses, and he left a suicide note to his family.”

Tributes were paid to Mr Vardy on Facebook after he died.

One woman wrote: “RIP Mick. A lovely bloke, would do anything to help.”

A man added: “He will be sadly missed.”
