DERBYSHIRE: Local election count underway
As results across the country roll in, UKIP has clinched early gains in council elections across England and nationally the Conservatives have lost control of two councils, but retained five others, while Labour has so far made modest gains in the Midlands and the south of England.
The Tories are defending thousands of seats last fought for in 2009 - when they were in opposition and when Labour had its worst night in local election history - and these seats include 31 Conservative seats at Derbyshire County Council where the party’s councillors seized control from Labour during the last local election.
