Derbyshire: Local businesses learn about opportunities

Prospective owners of a wind farm have hailed a recent ‘meet the developer’ event a success.

Njord Energy hosted the event with Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce (DNCC) at which local firms were invited to find out the business opportunities available at Griffe Grange Wind Farm, Brassington.

Around 20 businesses and speakers from the surrounding area attended the event, which was held in the Imperial Rooms, Matlock.

Speakers included Nick Chischniak at the Derbyshire chamber of commerce, Steven Radford, director of Njord Energy, and Gordon Mina of Senvion.

On offer are potential contracts for contractors, builders, metal workers, landscape workers, site security, local material suppliers, and many other companies within a wide range of disciplines.

Nick Chischniak of the chamber of commerce, said: “This approach by Njord Energy is to be highly commended. Not only does it help create and maintain local employment, it also draws attention to the wide range of skilled business in the Derbyshire Dales area.”

Steven Radford, added; “If approved, Griffe Grange Wind Farm represents an investment of up to £17million pounds into the region and I hold a firm belief that suppliers nearest to our projects deserve to have an opportunity to benefit first and foremost.

“I was impressed with the number of highly skilled businesses in the area and I hope the event has enabled local firms to learn more about our project and how they can benefit from the construction work and maintenance phases associated with the development.”

A planning application was submitted to Derbyshire Dales District Council in April 2014 for the proposed wind farm.
