DERBYSHIRE: Help oversee county’s police service

Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Charles and Chief Constable Mick Creedon are looking for five independent people to become members of the Joint Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee (JARAC).

Mr Charles said: “This is an important role as members will be representing our local communities. We are seeking people with a constructive but challenging approach to ensure that the governance of policing in Derbyshire is delivered properly.

“Their job will include responsibilities for overseeing risk management and proper governance arrangements, and working with both the internal and external auditors to support both myself and the Chief Constable in delivering the priorities set out in my Police and Crime Plan, and making sure that our communities are receiving value for money.”

Applicants should have significant management experience in a large organisation and an awareness and understanding of public sector finances. As well as having analytical and scrutiny abilities, they will need to demonstrate integrity, self-confidence and respect for others.

One of the five successful applicants will also be appointed as chair. Anyone applying for this role must also have strong leadership skills and experience in a senior role that has involved challenge to other senior managers.

Members will be expected to spend at least one day every three months on the JARAC meetings which will normally be held at Derbyshire Police Headquarters in Ripley. They will receive appropriate training, expenses and travel costs.

Three members will be recruited for a five-year period, and two for three years. After that, all positions will be for a five-year period - a rolling appointment approach that will provide a degree of continuity.

The closing date for applications is Monday 8 April at 5pm. Interviews will take place on Wednesday 24 April at Police Headquarters.
