DERBYSHIRE: Focus on first aid in run up to summer

DERBYSHIRE workers are being urged to get trained in first aid in the run up to summer.

With many staff taking annual leave over the summer months, businesses can unwittingly be left without sufficient trained first aiders and fire marshals in the event of an emergency.

John Cavanagh, regional director of St John Ambulance’s commercial training division in the Midlands, said: “More staff are away in summer than any other time of the year but unfortunately accidents don’t take holidays.

Employers can unwittingly overlook the fact that their first aiders could be absent when a serious accident happens.

“This can especially be the case in small businesses with very few employees, where there may be only one first aider,” he added.

St John Ambulance can deliver courses on-site at businesses or in one of the organisation’s training centres.
