DERBYSHIRE: Duke among Britain’s richest

THE Duke of Devonshire is the richest man in Derbyshire, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

His wealth has increased from £700m in 2012 to £720m this year, making him the 120th richest person in the country.

Also in the rich list is John Kirkland, of Heage-based construction group Bowmer and Kirkland, who is worth £440m.

The Duke, 68, succeeded to the role following the death of his father in 2004.

Alsong with his wife, they live at Chatsworth House – one of Britain’s top tourist attractions.

According to the annual rich list, which was published at the weekend, Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov is the wealthiest man in Britain – with a staggering fortune of £13.3bn.
