The council, whose response teams distributed 2,500 sandbags during the height of the crisis, is making efforts to follow up with everyone who called its emergency phoneline seeking help over the weekend, but there may be others affected who officers have yet to hear from.

Anyone who has not yet reported flood impacts to the authority can complete the simple form at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/FloodData and the information gathered will help the council to target the welfare visits and support it always offers after serious flood events.

Aside from welfare concerns, district council workers are now involved in a recovery operation, focusing initially on clearing highways of debris alongside counterparts from Derbyshire County Council.

While some of the district’s bigger communities were thankfully spared the scale of flooding which has become familiar in recent years, smaller towns and villages bore the brunt of it, along with their road connections.

On Monday, teams were out in Ashbourne, Kniveton, Carsington, Wirksworth and Baslow, while the county council focused on Rowsley, Cromford, Matlock Bath and Darley Bridge.

On Tuesday work was ongoing in Baslow, as well as Ashford-in-the-Water, Stoney Middleton and Bradwell.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Dales said: “A degree of patience and understanding is needed, please, if the teams haven’t yet managed to get to your area.”
