DERBYSHIRE: Council refuses to comment on chief executive’s future

Derbyshire County Council (DCC) has refused to dispute claims its new Labour leader is poised for a dramatic top-level clear out.

The authority would not comment on speculation its £152,000-a-year chief executive Nick Hodgson is to be shown the door by Cllr Anne Western – who took over as DCC’s leader this month after her party enjoyed a landslide win in the local elections.

The Labour group will meet tomorrow to confirm its new, streamlined cabinet.

Cllr Western, the first feamle leader of DCC, has decided to have six councillors in her cabinet – three fewer than the previous Conservative administration.

She said the move marked a fresh start for the council with new people and new portfolios to reflect their key priorities.

Cllr Western added: “We have an ambitious and exciting manifesto to deliver over the next four years.

“I’m really proud that we’ve got a strong team which has an equal mix of men and women to represent Derbyshire’s population and put our plans into action.”
