Derbyshire: Complaints about council dismissed

The district council has a good record of receiving and dealing with complaints – according to a local government watchdog.

The Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) has released figures for the number of complaints it has received about local authorities throughout the country in 2013/14.

It shows that during that time, the LGO received only 11 complaints about Derbyshire Dales District Council spanning the subjects of benefits and tax, planning and development, housing, highways and transport and environmental services, public protection and regulation. Of those complaints the government watchdog did not uphold any of them.

During the same period of time, Derbyshire County Council received 77 complaints, 57.9 per cent of which were upheld.

Dr Jane Martin, local government ombudsman, said: “We are releasing this data so that the public has a better understanding of the role of the Ombudsman and the work we do. We also hope the information will support better local accountability by helping people make informed choices about local public services.”
