Delays on M1 as serious police incident closes part of northbound carriageway

Part of the M1 near Derbyshire is closed this morning because of a "police incident".

The northbound carriageway between Junction 30 for Worksop and Sheffield South and Junction 31 for Sheffield and Worksop is closed.

Highways England tweeted: "M1 northbound J30 Barlborough to J31 Aston will remain closed for a number of hours for a police led incident."

The incident is being led by South Yorkshire Police.

There are traffic delays in the area with tailbacks to Junction 29 at Chesterfield.

Road users in vehicles under 14ft 3 are advised to follow the ‘solid circle’ diversion signs.

This sees theme exit the M1 at junction 30 and rejoin at J31 around eight miles later, having been diverted via the A616, A619, A60 and A57.

Those in vehicles taller than 14ft 3 should follow ‘solid triangle’ diversion signs.

The closure will last a ‘number of hours’.
