Daughter's heartfelt appeal after Clay Cross grave theft

Ann Swain, 59, had left a plant holder which she made herself at her mother’s grave in Danesmoor Cemetery.

The family is now appealing to anyone who has seen the item or might know what happened to it to get in touch.

Ann’s daughter, Clare Swain, said: “Mum has been taking a pottery class recently and the holder was one of the things she made.

“She thought it would be nice to leave it at gran’s grave to put plants in when she visited.

“It is only a little thing but losing it has really got to her - it’s just a terrible thing to do.

“She spent time trying to make something that would last as she isn’t able to visit as often as she would like - she is devastated that it’s gone missing.

“It’s only of sentimental value but anything that anybody can do to help would be really appreciated.”

The workmen at the cemetery have assured Ann that they have not removed the item. They also admitted that they have had a problem with other items going missing and flowers being moved as well.

A spokesperson for North East Derbyshire District Council said: “Mrs Swain contacted us about items being removed from a grave.

“We assured her that our grounds maintenance workers would not remove any item from a grave and if items had been damaged they would be reported immediately so we could inform the relevant family.”
