Dangerous drivers targeted on busy A6 at Darley Dale

Motorists were stopped on the A6 for a number of offences including lighting, steering, seat belt and tyre defects, using a mobile phone whie driving and driving licence and insurance issues.

Four drivers had to have their vehicle repaired or recovered after they were found to have serious defects.

Other checks included for MOT and vehicle registration plate issues and excessive oil leaking.

A Land Rover stopped for a routine check was found to be running on red diesel.

Representatives from HM Revenue and Customs dispatched another team to the owner’s home address and seized more fuel from that location. Enquiries are continuing.

A Fiat car towing a caravan towards Chatsworth was stopped for document and vehicle checks. The driver of this car was found to have an expired provisional licence and no insurance.

Sgt Andy Wordsworth, who oversees policing across the Derbyshire Dales, said: “It is concerning to see the extent of issues that were flagged up by the teams from driving defects to more serious ones such as red diesel and insurance problems.”

The crackdown took place on September 3 and involved Safer Neighbourhood officers, the Casualty Reduction Enforcement Support Team (CREST), the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), HM Revenue and Customs and police vehicle examiners.
