Criminal Behaviour Order for man involved in a number of thefts

Christopher Andrew Howell, 28, of Lansbury Drive, South Normanton, was given the court order by magistrates at a hearing at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Thursday, August 25.

The order will last for three years and he must not act or encourage others to act in a manner that causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to any person in Derbyshire, enter Alfreton Town Centre as defined on a map, except when travelling on public transport to Chesterfield and Ripley, including any transfer at Alfreton bus station. Also except when attending Manor Chemist, Limes Avenue, for collecting a prescription, enter any Co-Op store in Derbyshire, any Wikinson’s store in Derbyshire, and My Local on Market Street, South Normanton, remain on any commercial premises in Derbyshire if asked to leave by the owner, occupier or other person acting on behalf of the owner or occupier and enter any commercial premises or its boundary if he has banned from that premises.

Police can arrest Mr Howell if he is found breaching the CBO, and he would be brought before the court and could face jail.

PC Mark Scott, of the Alfreton Town Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Mr Howell has been persistently involved in theft, anti-social behaviour and other offences over more than a year.

“Work has been ongoing with partner agencies to encourage Mr Howell to curb this behaviour, but sadly this has been unsuccessful and he is now facing the consequences of his actions.

“Criminal and anti-social behaviour won’t be tolerated and this successful application is another example of effective partnership work between the police and partner agencies.

“We hope that this will have a positive outcome for members of the community but will also act as a deterrent to others.”
