Update on tractor driver arrested after man dies in Chesterfield road tragedy

A tractor driver who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in Chesterfield last week has been released under investigation.

At around 1.10pm on Thursday, a large trailer containing soil became detached from a tractor and fell on to a Toyota Aygo car on Station Lane, Old Whittington.

Jon-Paul Prigent, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene.

The 47-year-old programme manager, of Laburnum Street, Hollingwood, was giving one of his children a driving lesson at the time of the tragic incident, Chesterfield Coroner’s Court heard on Friday.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The tractor driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

On Monday, a Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson told the Derbyshire Times: “The tractor driver has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.”

Witnesses to the incident should call the force on 101, quoting reference number 610 of July 30.
