Thieves raid Derbyshire Dales parking meters for cash

Thieves have been raiding parking meters for cash at car parks in the Derbyshire Dales.

Police are investigating reports of money being stolen in recent weeks from machines at the Black Rocks Visitor Centre on Oakerthorpe Road in Bolehill and Middleton Top at Rise End, Middleton.

The latest incident, which took place sometime between 4pm on Friday July 31 and 9am on Tuesday August 4, saw thieves using a crow bar to force open two pay and display meters at the Cromford Mill Car Park on Mill Road.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said: “Following the incidents, motorists are being encouraged to be vigilant when leaving their vehicles unattended at public carparks by ensuring any valuables are out of view and removed from the vehicle where possible.

“Motorists are also being asked to report anyone acting suspiciously around car parks, especially around ticket machines, on 101 or 999 if a crime is in action.”
