Thief in Santa-style red trousers caught stealing Christmas presents in Derbyshire

Police in Derbyshire are hunting a thief who was caught on camera stealing a van full of Christmas presents while wearing red Santa-style trousers.

CCTV footage shows the man hiding behind a fence while a delivery driver drops off parcels in Pinxton.

The crook is then seen running to the delivery van when the driver's back is turned.

The driver tries to stop the thief before the stolen Peugeot Partner van speeds towards him.

He injured his foot during the incident on Town Street on November 25, which was one of a series of recent courier thefts.

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: “Investigations are ongoing and we would like to appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity around the time of these incidents, or with any information to contact us.

“Officers are also warning couriers to be vigilant and to make sure they secure their vehicles when they leave them to make a delivery, no matter how long they expect to be.”
