'Suspicious' man spotted knocking on houses in Chesterfield claiming to read electric meters

Police were alerted to a ‘suspicious’ man knocking on doors in Chesterfield yesterday (March 9) claiming he was reading electric meters.

Officers from Staveley Safer Neighbourhood Police Team said the man started visiting houses at the top end of Norbriggs Road and Woodthorpe Road at approximately 2.20pm.

The man who was described as ‘suspicious’ claimed he was there to read electric meters but could not provide any proof of who he was.

Police have urged residents to double check identification before allowing a stranger into their home.
