Students handed Covid fines after visiting Bakewell for fish and chips to mark end of exams

Officers said the group had met in the market town to get some fish and chips but were found to be in breach of Government guidelines by Derbyshire police.
The Bakewell, Hathersage and White Peak Villages Safer Neighbourhood Team said they were alerted to the pupils after receiving a call from a business owner in the area.

Five fixed penalty notices were issued to the students who were sent home before they got the chance to order their food.
Posting on Facebook, Bakewell SNT said: “Following a call from local business owner, Bakewell SNT issued 5 Covid tickets to a group of visiting students. The group were celebrating finishing their exams. Unfortunately for the group they didn’t even get any fish and chips. The group were sent home on the next bus.”
