Terrifying footage released by Nottinghamshire Police captured Gavin Collins, 39, formerly of Addison Street, Tibshelf, in a driving rampage where he drove into a pensioner who was waiting at a bus stop in Mansfield Woodhouse.

He was previously found guilty by a jury of manslaughter by diminished responsibility following the death of 87-year-old Terry Radford after a five-week long trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

Collins will now serve a minimum of 14 years in prison after he was also found guilty of two counts of aggravated vehicle taking, two counts of burglary and one count of attempted robbery in connection with a series of incidents in Mansfield and Ashfield.

The 39-year-old stormed into a man’s home in Tibshelf on 19 April 2019, before he grabbed a set of car keys and claimed he was borrowing the man’s car before driving off towards Skegby in Nottinghamshire.

Dashcam footage shows Collins careering towards cars and narrowly missing oncoming traffic, screaming: “Let's go! Let's go! I'm enraged. I'm Jesus. I'm the descendant of God.”

He crashed into a house on Mansfield Road in Skegby, forcing a homeowner to leap out of the way as the car hit their house.

Collins then asked for the man’s car keys but was refused.

He then carjacked a woman driving on the A38 and forced her out onto the road before driving off towards Mansfield Woodhouse.

Minutes later Collins got out of the car, after colliding with some barriers, and approached a house on foot.

He then banged on the window shouting to be let in before throwing a slab from the garden at the patio doors which shattered and threatened the homeowners before taking their car keys.

Collins then went to a neighbouring property where he demanded the occupant remove a tag from his ankle.

He then drove off in a Seat Leon for about 20 yards before he reversed at speed, mounted the pavement and hit Mr Radford who was waiting at a bus stop.

Mr Radford, who was a grandfather and retired magistrate, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Collins repeatedly rammed a police car when he became corned in a cul-de-sac before reversing into a wall and driving away.

Officers tasered and arrested the 39-year-old killer after he smashed into a tree and became trapped in the car.

Mr Radford’s grieving family said in a statement: "We’re absolutely devastated at the loss of the most wonderful dad and grandad who was loved and respected by everyone.

"He was the hub of our family. He was 87 but remained intelligent, articulate and funny.

“He was great company to be with and was as sharp as a pin.”

Detective Inspector Becky Hodgman said: "This is a tragic set of circumstances that has obviously had a devastating and profound impact on Mr Radford’s family and friends.

“Our thoughts continue to be with them at this extremely difficult time as well as with those people affected by Collins’ actions that day."
