A driver put others at serious risk of crashing when they abandoned their broken down vehicle in the middle of a busy dual carriageway near Chesterfield.

Derbyshire Roads Police said the driver had ‘locked up and walked away’ leaving their car parked on the brow of the A617, which is subject to the National Speed Limit, today (March 21).

The unit said they hadn’t been notified that the vehicle, which was recovered at the owner’s expense, had broken down and been abandoned on the dual carriageway.
