Residents urged not to crowd police cordon as Ministry of Defence called to Derbyshire garden

The “suspected piece of old ordnance” was discovered at about 3.30pm today, Sunday, March 22, in Alvaston.
Now police are asking residents not to surround the cordon because of the current coronavirus outbreak.

Hide AdA spokesman from Derbyshire Police said: “We have closed Harvey Road in Alvaston, Derby from Blue Peter Island down to Spider Island after a suspected piece of old ordnance was dug up. We have notified the Ministry of Defence, which will be attending.
“There is a 100m cordon in place around the property, in Barrett Street, and this extends into Harvey Road. If your route takes you to the area, please plan alternative routes.
“We also want to remind people of the government recommendations around social distancing. Please do not congregate at the cordon.”
