Police warnings as visitors flock to Peak District beauty spots in heatwave

Derbyshire Police have warned about dangerous parking and lack of social distancing as visitors cram into Peak District destinations.

Police say Dovedale was extremely busy today, tweeting: “ The car park is full and social distancing is increasingly difficult due to the large numbers of people. Some are double parking on the roads. If there were to be an emergency, @DerbyshireFRS and @EMASNHSTrust would be unable to access the site.”

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit described motorist’s behaviour as astonishing and arrogant at Padley Gorge.

A spokesman for the unit said: “Would you park in front of these signs, against double white lines which protect a blind bend?

An officer tweeted this afternoon that 30 vehicles have been ticketed by the local safer neighbourhood team with a £100 fine, and three points for all offenders.

The tweet added: “Local residents and cyclists thanking us. Use the car parks.”
