Police investigate after 'suspicious van' spotted near Chesterfield

Police are investigating reports of a ‘suspicious van’ spotted in a village near Chesterfield.

Officers in Wingerworth say they were alerted by a resident about the van on Adlington Avenue ‘with the occupants shining torches down people’s drives and probably looking for property to take’.

Wingerworth and Rural Police Safer Neighbourhood Team officers urged residents not to be alarmed, but to share the appeal with other people in the Wingerworth area.

They posted on Facebook: “This message is not meant to cause you alarm but to make you aware.

"We have a registration mark for the vehicle but it is probably on false plates.

"Please share with your friends and neighbours. Thank you to the resident that reported this to us.”
