Police dog chases suspect into Chesterfield river in dramatic arrest

The suspect was one of two people arrested in a dramatic incident this morning (February 4), which also saw a police helicopter deployed.

Eagle-eyed officers spotted a van at 9.50am, on St Mary’s Gate, which they suspected was stolen.

The officers tried to pull the vehicle over but the driver allegedly failed to stop.

Two men got out of the van on Hunlocke Avenue, and one was detained by officers.

However, the other suspect was chased by PD Buzz, and ended up in a river under a bridge near Park Road.

An eyewitness said that a man was chased across the leisure centre car park before jumping over a fence.

Two men, aged 21 and 26, were then arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, and are currently in custody.
