Man jailed for series of theft and fraud offences in Chesterfield

He was identified following an investigation into the theft of two bikes which were stolen from a garden on Herriot Drive at around 4.45am on Monday 11 May.

Officers also received reports from residents on Monday 11 May about a man trying car doors on Herriot Drive and Oadby Drive, while perfume and gloves were taken from a car on Swalebank Close.

During their inquiries they then discovered the same man had been responsible for using a stolen bank card at stores in Walton, the town centre, on Derby Road, Horse Chesnut Close and on Baden Powell Road on Tuesday 5 May.

The 41-year-old was charged and remanded to court to face a total of 14 offences, including theft by finding, theft from a vehicle, theft of a pedal cycle and fraud by false representation.

Poxton pleaded guilty at the hearing at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Friday 15 May. He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, and ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.

Inspector Daron Abbott, who is in charge of policing in the Chesterfield area, said: “This is good result which has seen Mr Poxton brought to justice for a number of thefts in the Chesterfield area in May.

“Despite the current, challenging climate faced at this time, we remain committed to targeting crime and keeping our communities safe.”
