A man has been arrested after a cyclist suffered serious injuries in a suspected hit-and-run crash at a Chesterfield roundabout.

Shortly after 8am on Sunday, a cyclist and a van collided at Whittington Moor roundabout.

According to Derbyshire Constabulary, the van did not stop at the scene and reportedly drove off along the A61 towards Sheffield.

A force spokesperson said on Sunday night: “A 69-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after the collision.

"The man has been released under investigation and the cyclist remains in hospital with serious injuries.”

The island was closed for several hours while officers investigated what happened.
