Man appears in court charged with Chesterfield 'bottle attack' murder

A 24-year-old man from Chesterfield appeared at Derby Crown Court today charged with the murder of a man who was attacked outside a nightclub in Chesterfield.

Police believe that ex-soldier Joseph Robotham was hit over the head with a bottle near Vibe, in Holywell Street, early on Saturday morning (February 8).

Connor Rose, of no fixed abode, is charged with murder and is also accused of possession of an offensive weapon.

He did not enter a plea at the short hearing.

Mr Rose has been remanded in custody.

Pre-trial hearing dates of 20 March and 29 June have been set, while a trial is expected to take place on August 4.

Joseph’s family spoke of their grief at losing their ‘beautiful boy’, who they said was ‘cruelly taken away from us’.

Following Joseph Robotham’s death, his cousin has launched a petition to ban pubs and nightclubs from serving drinks in glass containers.
