‘It was getting out of hand’: Car bursts into flames at Chesterfield Tesco petrol station

Emergency services rushed to a petrol station in Chesterfield after a car set on fire this morning (February 10).

Police and fire engines were called to the Tesco Extra on Lockoford Lane to deal with the flaming vehicle.

The fire started around 10.30am and emergency services were there ‘within minutes’.

Witness Craig Botham said: “As I was walking back to my car I noticed the car on fire in the petrol station.

“Tesco’s staff and others were trying to deal with it but it was quickly getting out of hand.

“The police arrived on site quickly to control the situation blocking off both sides of the road to passing traffic.”

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said: “We got called at 10.29 this morning to attend a car fire on Lockoford Lane, Whittington Moor.

“Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet extinguished the car which was well alight.”
