First picture of teenage Sheffield crash victim released as investigation continues

The family of a teenager who died in a Sheffield crash just days before Christmas have released a photograph of him.

Jake Birkinshaw was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on Hathersage Road in Dore on Saturday, December 19 at around 10.15pm.

It is understood that the 19-year-old passenger, from Hathersage, was killed when the 17-year-old driver of a silver Ford Fiesta lost control on a bend, causing the car to flip.

A wall of flowers has been laid at the scene and tributes to the ‘lovely’ young man who ‘always had a smile on his face’ have poured in on social media.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or has dash-cam footage to get in touch.
