Drunk driver in 'carjacking' claim after smashing car following night out in Chesterfield

A Derbyshire man told please he had been carjacked after he crashed into a wall on a drunken drive back from a night out in Chesterfield.

Nathan Pink was arrested after police arrived at the scene of the collision on Matlock Road, Ashover, on November 23, Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Friday, February 21.

Pink initially told police that he had been carjacked by a group of strangers in Chesterfield, but later changed his story and said that a man he had met in a club, who was less drunk, had offered to drive him home, said Becky Allsop, prosecuting.

She said: “He was arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution, and when he was interviewed by police he said that he had been in a club in Chesterfield, and another man who was less drunk had offered to drive him home.”

Pink, 22, of Lumsdale Crescent, Matlock, admitted drink driving when he appeared before the court.

Mitigating, Annis Rowland said: “When he was interviewed he gave various scenarios, but the police constable who interviewed him was having none of it, and eventually he admitted that he had driven. It wasn’t a great piece of detective work. He was covered in vomit, the car was covered in vomit, he was located close by and he had the keys in his pocket.”

Pink was banned from the roads for 14 months, fined £272 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
