Dog rushed to Sheffield vet after suffering catastrophic bleeding following Peak District fall

Edale Mountain Rescue Team said Walter the Hungarian Vizsla reportedly slipped down the face of Back Tor at Great Ridge at around noon on Tuesday (15 December).

A spokesperson said they were informed he had “sustained significant injuries, including catastrophic bleeding.”

They added: “The owner was with three of his friends and between them they were able to get Walter the Hungarian Vizsla up to the ridge track and started to carry him down towards Castleton.

"As team members arrived a hasty snatch party was sent up to meet and assist with the evacuation.”

One of the Mountain Rescue volunteers who is also a vet gave Walter emergency medical treatment at the scene before giving him oxygen on the way to Sheffield.

Johnathan Rice, Walter’s owner, said: “A massive thanks all at MRT and the friends I had with me today - if I was on my own it could have been a different story.

"Walter is currently at the vets - he has various injuries including pelvic trauma but he’s alive.”

He added: “He’s not out of the woods but near the tree line – as the vet said all his Christmases had come at once - he’s a very lucky lad thanks for all your good wishes and prayers and if you got [sic] any spare change please chuck it in the MRT charity - not all heroes wear capes.

“Missing my best mate .Thanks to everyone who helped me and Walter today.”
