A Derbyshire teenager accused of attempting to strangle a woman has been remanded in custody.

Officers were called to a report that at 11.40pm on Friday, September 11, a woman was in Alfreton Road, Little Eaton, near Belper, when a man allegedly approached her and assaulted her, pulling her to the floor and putting his hands around her throat.

Alberto Esposito, 18, of Horsley Lane, Coxbench, was charged with attempting to strangle or choke a person with intent following police investigations over the weekend.

He appeared before Derby Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 14, and will next appear before Derby Crown Court on October 12 for a plea and direction hearing.

It is understood that the incident happened outside the Bell and Harp public house in the village, and that the 25-year-old alleged victim was not seriously hurt.
